- Make an
appointment.
- Check
your college's website first for appointment information.
- Call
the department if necessary.
- Meet with
your adviser before "the big rush"; i.e., about ten weeks into
the semester.
- Be prepared
because your appointment will be about thirty minutes.
- Check out
Degree Navigator before your appointment: https://ntweb1.ais.msu.edu/degnav
- Read the
graduation requirements for your major before your appointment.
- Write down
questions you have.
- Bring a
list of electives you are interested in. Consult the Description
of Courses (http://www.reg.msu.edu/Courses/search.asp)
- Know the
number of credits you can handle. You must have at least 12 credits
to be a full-time student.
- Be on time
or early. Know where to meet your adviser.
- As far as
class selection goes, stick with what your adviser suggests. They
won't select classes for you.
- Be open
to their suggestions (i.e., classes, advice).
- Ask how
to contact them should you have follow-up questions.
