  • As you are reading, highlight/underline important information. Don't highlight everything.

  • Break up the reading. If possible, do a little each night vs. all the night before.

  • Stay focused.

  • Be prepared--you'll read a lot more in college than you did in high school.

  • Read captions under the pictures, graphs, etc.

  • Write in your book--anything that will help you recall the information.

  • If the information is confusing, ask your professor or TA for help.

  • Read before class.

  • Don't sit on the bed. You'll fall asleep!

  • Read in a place where there is good lighting.

  • Use a post-it note to mark important sections and passages.

  • Take notes in the margins.

  • Answer the study questions at the end of the chapter.
