- Talk to your
Mentor to get ideas regarding how to get involved.
- Refer to
http://www.studentlife.msu.edu/activity/orglist/
for a list of MSU student organizations.
- If there
is a particular group you'd like to join, and MSU doesn't have
it, create it. Go to http://studentlife.msu.edu/activity/orghand/register.htm
for information on how to do this.
- Talk to
other students about what's available.
- Attend Sparticipation, which takes place during Fall Welcome. You can learn
about many of MSU's student organizations and get free stuff.
- If you join
a student organization, often times you'll make friends, develop
leadership skills, learn to manage your time, etc.
- Determine
if you have time for a leadership position before you commit to
one.
- Don't be
afraid to say no to commitments you can't handle.
- Look for
groups related to your major or areas of study/interest.
- Join a student
group that interests you, even if it is not within your major.
- Don't be
afraid to say you can no longer be a member of an organization,
if it interferes with your academic progress.
- Don't get
over involved. Make sure you have time to do what you are volunteering
to do. Academics come first.

- Meeting new people.
- Feeling connected to campus.
- Making connections and improving networking skills.
